Seizures & Epilepsy

Understanding Epilepsy

Epilepsy affects approximately 2.5 million Americans, with 125,000 new diagnoses each year. Nearly 9% of the general population will experience at least one seizure in their lifetime.

Symptoms can include convulsions, staring, muscle spasms, peculiar sensations, or episodes of altered consciousness. Repeated seizures characterize epilepsy.

The condition arises from abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Normally, brain cells communicate through organized electrical signals. In epilepsy, these signals become disrupted, leading to an "electrical storm" that triggers seizures.

While the exact cause of epilepsy remains unclear, researchers have identified trauma as a significant factor.

Head injuries or trauma to the neck and upper back are believed to contribute to the development of seizure disorders. In some cases, such injuries may occur during birth, particularly in pediatric cases.

Seizures may manifest immediately following an injury or may emerge months or even years later. Continued research aims to deepen our understanding of epilepsy and improve treatment options for those affected by this condition.

KCSC Procedure & Epilepsy

The continuous flow of nerve signals from the brain stem to the cerebrum is essential for proper brain function. Any interruption in this communication pathway can have significant consequences, potentially contributing to the development of seizure disorders.

Misalignments in the upper cervical spine (neck) can disrupt the function of the brain stem, which serves as a crucial relay center for nerve signals between the brain and the body.

This disruption can trigger an "electrical storm" within the brain, characterized by abnormal electrical activity that may escalate into seizures. By addressing these misalignments with KCSC Procedure, it may be possible to restore proper communication between the brain stem and the cerebrum, potentially reducing the risk of seizures and improving overall brain function.
